Wood Carving - This Is an opportunity for 8 new carvers.

Minimum tools needed - A detail knife, 1/8" v-tool, 1/4" #7 or #9 sweep gouge suggested.


Rock River Valley Carvers of Wisconsin, Inc. (www.rockrivervalleycarvers.com) is putting on a 3 night ‘Introduction to Wood Carving’ class on doing a simple project that is very suitable for a first-time carver. For a modest $20 charge, the club will put on three nights of classes from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, February 5; Tuesday, February 19; and Tuesday, March 5. The classes will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church in Ortmayer Hall at 419 East Court Street (the intersection of Court and Atwood Streets), in Janesville (lower level, west courtyard side entrance).

Class size is limited to eight (8) adult students. The $20 fee includes membership in the club for 2019, a club patch, monthly newsletters, materials for the 3 nights (wood and detail/bench knife will be loaned for the 1st night session) of the classes. A list of suggested tools and possible tool vendors will be provided. Preferred items to purchase by new carvers are: Detail bench knife, 1/4" or 1/8" V tool, 4mm or 5mm gouge (flexcraft or Rammel), Sharpening/strop block, thumb guard and carving glove.
